Sign language

Sign language as defined by wikipedia is a language which, instead of acoustically conveyed sound patterns, uses visually transmitted sign patterns such as manual communication and body language to convey meaning—simultaneously combining hand shapes, orientation and movement of the hands, arms or body, and facial expressions to fluidly express a speaker's thoughts.

There are institutions that offers sign language courses for everyone who wants to learn. I have found one that is offered in Sydney called the "Deaf Education Network". All their courses are taught in Auslan only. Auslan (Australian Sign Language) is the language of the deaf community in Australia. They offer a variety of courses which includes computer skills, job skills, international sign as well as yoga. [source: deaf.nsw.edu.au]

You can also find sites and videos which teaches free sign language. You can find these videos at youtube and free classes in sites such as start-american-sign-language.com (Start ASL). At Start ASL they also offer free baby signs for those parents who wants to try baby sign language.

I have found that there are different versions of sign language, there is the Australian version, the American and the British. I'm not sure if sign language is Universal but you can check these websites out to find out which version you want to learn. To learn British sign language go to Bristish Sign Language. For American sign language go to Start ASL and for the Australian Sign language you can go to Auslan Signbank.
